When you think of the camera, you may think that it is a oblong box with a lens protruded in the center of it. On the other hand, the TLR camera has a vertical box with two thin lenses just put on the front in a row. And generally you have to face a subject when you take portrait photography with 35mm camera, but you don't have to do that with TLR camera since looking down to see the focusing screen. These are big differences when you are taken.
What's more, the mirror doesn't rise up and down on the TLRs so that the shutter sound hardly be noticed, and also it lessens the shock when the shutter is released.

It goes without saying that the TLR camera is a very exciting tool for the user, and when you use it for the first time, you may think a new kind of world is just waiting in front of you. 6x6cm square format allows you to trim the world freely without worrying whether you composite vertically or horizontally.
But at the same time, there are several things you have to get used to in using it.
One of them is that the image shows opposite at the horizontal on the focusing screen. When you take the camera to the right, the image goes to the left, and vice versa. This certainly frustrates you at first.
Most TLR cameras has fixed 75 or 80mm standard lens which is not interchangeable. But that focal length suits for 6x6cm format very much.
The TLR camera has not been manufactured these days, so what you can get is mostly a secondhand one. But the structure of it is simpler than that of SLR camera and you can use it for a long time if it's well maintained.
