Chotoku in Kyoto, with a Leica M7
A day's walk through Kyoto with Chotoku Tanaka and an M7 — the station, Kiyomizu-dera, Arashiyama, and the back streets in between.

Kyoto Station. The gateway to the city, rebuilt in 1997. Up the long escalator to the roof garden and the view across to Kyoto Tower. Shooting through glass; the rapid-wind finder grip and other accessories.
Kiyomizu-dera and Arashiyama. The far side of the famous places, found by walking. The Dual M-Hexanon 21/35 does most of the work.
Up Chawan-zaka. To Kiyomizu-dera, a chance meeting with a French couple, then the pagoda, the stage, and the Otowa falls — complicated exposures handled on the M7.
Tenshitsukinuke-cho. Odd objects in a street with an odd name. The Visoflex appears.
Keage. Out of the tunnel to a road of white walls, and an aqueduct that reflects like facing mirrors. Then through the gate at Nanzen-ji. Exposure for white subjects, and how to release a slow shutter.
Featured in the 16 June issue of Mono Magazine.
