Overseas Orders
Our online shop is in Japanese and ships within Japan. For customers abroad we arrange shipments individually, by correspondence. Stock is limited and a few items cannot be sent overseas, so please ask about the particular thing you have in mind. The terms are set out below.
Most of what we make is produced in small numbers for the Japanese market. Stock is limited, some things are made only to order, and a few cannot be sent abroad. Tell us what you are looking for and we will say what is possible.
If you are unsure whether a hood, a grip or an adapter fits your particular camera, please ask before ordering — tell us the model, and send a photograph if you can. Many of these things are for cameras fifty or seventy years old, and small differences matter. It is a question we are glad to answer, and it saves a parcel crossing the world twice.
We reply in English, usually within a few days. We work in Kyoto, on Japan Standard Time (UTC+9), so a reply may reach you on what is the following day.
PayPal, in Japanese yen, in advance. A PayPal account is not required — the invoice page accepts debit and credit cards directly, as well as Apple Pay.
All prices and invoices are in Japanese yen. We give an approximate equivalent in your own currency when we quote, so you know roughly what to expect; the actual rate is the one your card issuer or PayPal applies on the day.
The invoice arrives from our registered company name, 株式会社メディアジョイ, which is Mediajoy Co., Ltd. written in Japanese. We mention it here so the sender does not come as a surprise.
We send by Japan Post and offer two services. Tell us which you prefer, or ask us to recommend one for what you are ordering.

The cost depends on weight and destination, so we quote it per order rather than publishing a table. Delivery times are the carrier’s estimates and are not guaranteed. Once a parcel has left Japan it is in the hands of your own postal service and customs authority.
A few items cannot travel by air to every country — those containing batteries, for instance. If this affects your order, we will say so in our reply.
Import duties, VAT and customs handling charges, where they apply, are payable by the recipient on arrival. These are set by your own country and we have no part in them. The customs declaration carries the true description and value of the contents; we are not able to mark a parcel as a gift or to understate its value.
Where a parcel is refused or left unclaimed and is returned or disposed of by customs, we are not able to refund it.
Every item is checked and photographed before it is packed, and every parcel is sent with tracking, so that any question about what was sent can be settled quickly. Orders are dispatched within three working days of payment; where something is made to order, we say so before invoicing and give you a date.
If the item is faulty, or we sent the wrong thing — write to us within fourteen days of delivery and include a photograph of the problem. We need the photograph to see what has happened, and to take the matter up with the carrier where that is necessary. We will then put it right, by replacement or by refund, and we cover the cost of doing so.
If you change your mind — write to us within fourteen days of delivery. The item must be unused and in the condition it was sent. Return postage and any customs charges are yours, and we ask that the parcel be sent with tracking; we refund the price of the item once it has reached us in good order. The original shipping is not refunded.
Return postage to Japan is expensive, often more than a small item is worth, so please ask us anything you need to know before you order.
Items made to order cannot be returned for a change of mind.
